Ye Olde Channel Update

(this is the script to a video I don't have the heart/energy to make) Introduction Hi, welcome to Logan Tyler Smith, it’s a YouTube channel started in 2011, although it didn’t have any original content until 2016 or so.  This channel has had its name changed many times over the years, for a while it was called Black-Smith Productions, there was a brief period where it was called Alaska’s Autistic Auteur (also Alaska’s Autistic Artist), and another period where it was named after my podcast LoganLand Rants.  But for now it’s called Logan Tyler Smith, my full name of course.  And this channel, like it’s name, has evolved many times reflecting different phases I went through in my late teens and early twenties.  I’m 24 now, and I honestly can’t say I’ve learned much in almost six years of posting content to my channel.  In fact, if you’ve seen my subscriber count, you know I haven’t really learned anything.  But I’d still like to give a little history lesson for those who didn’t watch

Today in Writing 8/5/21

NOTE: You will see some of these ideas stated in a video entitled "This week in writing 8/1/21-8/7/21" released on 8/8/21. You've been warned.  Well, I've taken a break from "The Plug!" To be clear I have still been working on my comic book "Call to Action." But the reason I'm taking a break from "The Plug" is simply because: ANOTHER MUSE TOOK HOLD!! I can't reveal much about this project, but it is an exciting, topical musical (that much I can  reveal).  The past few days I have written a handful of songs and am finished with "Call to Action" Issue 1.  (I am also 12 pages into Issue 2).  Still, I will continue to update throughout the week whenever something new in writing comes up!! Stay tuned for "This week in writing 8/1/21-8/7/21" on 8/8/21!!

Today in Writing 8/2/21

NOTE: You will see some of these ideas stated in a video entitled "This week in writing 8/1/21-8/7/21" released on 8/8/21. You've been warned.  Evidently I was wrong about being "more than prepared for" tomorrow (today).  I am definitely not going to get any writing done beyond this (short) blog post and the 6 pages of comic script I powered through (I did that actually in addition to the 6 pages yesterday, so 12 pages total).   This means I have to do...43 pages of screenplay tomorrow.  So not off to a great start.  Luckily I don't have many plans tomorrow so I am having a full-blown writing day. Wish me luck! Stay tuned for "This week in writing 8/1/21-8/7/21" on 8/8/21!!

Today in Writing 8/1/21

NOTE: You will see some of these ideas stated in a video entitled "This week in writing 8/1/21-8/7/21" released on 8/8/21. You've been warned.  Today I documented my writing process. For context I am currently working on two projects:          The Plug: a screenplay about a woman debating with her family about whether to pull the plug on her estranged mother.           Call to Action: a 4-issue comic series about a man's rise and fall in the film industry that kills him inside and out.  I documented my virtues throughout the project, and I think it's important to note I had a month-long goal (roughly 21 days, in accordance with Viki King's book "How to Write a Screenplay in 21 Days."  The plan today was supposed to be to write 6 pages of the 20-issue comic issue of the 4-issue comic series (I'm not doing the artwork, just describing the artwork and dialogue) and 10 pages of a screenplay.  I managed to get the 6 pages of Issue 1 done... ...but on

Why I'm Taking a Break from LoganLand Rants

WHY I’M TAKING A BREAK FROM LOGANLAND RANTS by Logan Tyler Smith Hey guys. If you’ve been a longtime viewer of my YouTube channel, you probably know that for the past two or so years (since 2019), I’ve had a movie-based podcast titled LoganLand Rants.  The basic concept of the podcast is that I provide my unfiltered opinions on movies, the good the bad and in-between of my perspective on a given cinematic work. Also you may have noticed I haven’t uploaded in about fa month since posting the last podcast video on the film 21 Jump Street.  And that’s pretty much where I’m comfortable leaving it for now. Part of this blog will be my reasons why I’m taking a long hiatus from LoganLand Rants.  I’m spending my time filmmaking/writing.  I’m sure my friends and family watching this video know this, but for those of you who don’t know, in high school I wanted to be a fantasy novelist. While that dream of fantasy writing has faded a little bit, the creative urge simply hasn’t gone away

Ant-Man (2015) Movie Review

In “Ant-Man” a former theif tries to reconnect with his daughter around the same time he gets out of prison. Around this time, he must become a superhero both for his daughter and for the good of science.   Ant-Man may seem cliche (and it is) but it packs more punch than most less passable films. The film has some surprising performances (including by the usually-great Paul Rudd and his thieving peers [also Michael Douglas, of course]) and at times generates actual laughter.  Ant-Man also features some of the most inventive action scenes in most of Marvel moviedom. The shrinking of Paul Rudd’s character allows for many variables that make the action scenes genuinely exciting (especially during scenes where there are actual narrative stakes, of which there are more than enough).  However, if you are not a fan of big CGI spectacles you will of course be disappointed. The bland camera effects as well as its need to tie into a larger universe (including a lengthy scene with Anthony Macki

WHY I’M A “BAD PERSON” AND I’M FINE WITH THAT

The title alone isn’t exactly clickbait, but if you read this far chances are you’re interested in this topic; so I’ll explain.   You see, there’s a story I don’t want to talk about right now, or at the very least I won’t name names, but I’ll long story short summarize events.  I’ve had many more conversations at bars than I’m initially proud of, Alaska bars aren’t exactly going to be as smart as I generally try to be. But one conversation in particular irked me.  It was a conspiracy theorist and supporter of my youtube channel (whose name I will not mention here out of general respect) who I had the number and facebook info for (she trusted me like a friend, which probably bothered me more than it should).  Anyway, we had a particularly heated convo at the bar; the bartender stopped it (bless his heart [I’m an atheist, it’s an expression]) and we respectfully disagreed (me a little less so, I’m getting to it).  Now, for one stupid reason or another, this conversation stewed in my he

HOW I AM MORE PRODUCTIVE THAN YOU THINK

If you don’t already read this blog (or even know if I exist) you probably don’t believe me: bear with me anyway, as there’s a lesson in disguise.   I’ve had a very productive couple weeks, some days harder than others. I had a pretty lax schedule generally before though; it went something like this: Wake up and drink coffee/eat breakfast Watch videos, movies, listen to podcasts all day every day (MAYBE read a book or article) MAYBE DoorDash deliver or Instacart shop Go to bed Now even though I maintain I’ve been more productive these past couple weeks, I would like to point out my schedule has not changed that much.  Here’s how it goes: Wake up and drink coffee Work on podcast or upcoming videos (schedule changes depending on video) Go for a run (depends on day and time); run or not either way I take a shower, basic hygiene DoorDash or Instacart (again, depends on the day and time) Get writing done (books, screenplays, this blog, I have a lot to write) Watch video
